New Year’s Resolutions

With the holidays behind us now and the statistical department crunching numbers and preparing data for 2009, it is time for us to lay the foundation for the new year and get ready to make a difference on the streets and highways of Florida. Your LEL is ready to assist local and state law enforcement agencies in reaching the goals and objectives that your agency has set to arrest impaired drivers, increase safety belt usage, and reduce speeding and aggressive driving offenses. Effective enforcement will prevent serious and deadly crashes. We urge everyone to participate in this year's challenges and campaigns to help make a difference in not only your backyard, but all across the Sunshine State. The annual Click It or Ticket and DUI Sustained Enforcement programs have been proven to be successful tools in raising awareness and saving lives. The Florida Law Enforcement Challenge and Motor Unit Challenge are creative initiatives to encourage enforcement of some of Florida's most important laws. Friendly competition between agencies has not only resulted in awards to the best overall traffic safety programs, but has saved lives in the process through education and enforcement. In 2010 we invite you all to resolve to become active in our programs, build a partnership with your local Law Enforcement Liaison, and join fellow law enforcement officers in saving lives across Florida!

Get Your Motors Runnin’

The 2009 Motor Unit Challenge is complete! Activity and data for the November and December 2009 time frame is due from partici-pating agencies no later than January 15, 2010, to Law Enforcement Liaison Shaun Vanbeber at sflelvanbeber@aol.com. All data submissions must include a digital picture of the agency’s motor unit. Be creative with your picture submission. The motors and the personnel who ride them should be photographed in a manner to not only recognize the hard work that has been done, but to positively reflect your agency and community. This year's top Motor Unit Challenge grand prize is a 2010 Harley Davidson Police Road King with Stage II Performance Package, ABS, Decatur Electronics Genesis II RADAR, International Police Technologies Vision Hawk digital recorder, and Motolights.

January 2010
